Workshop – “The part played by forest management on the prevention and restoration of Montados on a post fire situation”

The Workshop entitled “The part played by forest management on the prevention and restoration of Montados on a post fire situation” took place on the 23rd of November 2017 on Cine-teatro Grandolense in Grândola Municipality.

The opening session was with the Mayor of Grândola Mr. António de Jesus Figueira Mendes, Pedro Silveira (from ANSUB) and Joana Amaral Paulo (from CEF/ISA).

Around 60 people attended the meeting, which started with the presentation by Joana Amaral Paulo entitled  “The impact of different forest management practices in managing understorey biomass and in the growth of the tree and its cork”, followed by Filipe Catry’s  (CEABN/ISA): “The dynamics of recovering post fire cork tree stands.”; João Neves Silva’s (CEF/ISA): “Fire regimes in Portugal: the specific case of cork tree stands.”; and Carlos Ramalho’s (ICNF): “The legal and technical frameworks of recovering the  productive potential of cork tree stands”.

The closing session was by Pedro Silveira (ANSUB) and Joana Amaral Paulo (CEF/ISA).

After a lunch break there was a visit to a burned cork tree stand área (on the summer of 2017).
