The fourth portuguese Regional Agroforestry Innovation Network meeting took place on the 27th of February 2019 at Instituto Superior de Agronomia (ISA) in Lisbon.
35 RAIN members attended the meeting, which started with a brief summary of the project’s activities on the last six months, and a presentation of the first dissemination materials by Joana Amaral Paulo (CEF/ISA).
Maria Custódia Correia (Rede Rural Nacional) presented the concept, goals, current numbers and perspectives of the operational groups. Alfredo Sendim (Soc. Ag. Freixo do Meio) presented the operational group “ECOMONTADO XXI - Agroecology applied to the design of new Montados“, speaking on the importance of agroecology nowadays and how his farm is applying its concepts. Isabel Pinto (ACHAR) presented Oak®eGeneration - Strategies and models of forest management for the creation of natural regeneration areas of cork and olm oak on national oak stands” operational group, showing some already available numbers. Conceição Santos Silva (UNAC) presented “UNDERCORK – Integrated management of Coroebus undatus” operational group, pointing out the work done so far and some solid answers about the forest plague and relevant to forest management they are aiming for. Following each presentation, the attendees asked the speakers some questions.
Lastly, it was announced that the next RAIN meeting (which will be the project’s last) will take place somewhere next September or October at Observatório do Sobreiro e da Cortiça, in Coruche.
