Portuguese Innovation Broker speaks on the 2nd Conference on forestry management, territory and natural risks

The 2nd conference on forestry management, territory and natural risks took place on the 17th of April, in Grândola, on the Alentejo region of Portugal.

Joana Amaral Paulo, portuguese Innovation Broker from the AFINET project, spoke on this event about cork and holm oak Montado systems, showing the results of a study about the trends of Montado productivity in the last 30 years. Joana Amaral Paulo also discussed the importance that agroforestry has in the sustainable development of rural areas.

This event was hosted by Confederação dos Agricultores de Portugal (CAP), the Municipality of Grândola, the Association of Farmers of Grândola and PEFC Portugal (Programa para o Reconhecimento da Certificação Florestal). It was aimed at increasing public understanding about the relevance of Mediterranean forest production systems and the challenges that their management poses. Conceição Santos Silva (UNAC) and Luís Neves Silva (WWF) were also speakers. 

The President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, attended the event, talking about the lack of attention that rural areas usually get. The Head of State also mentioned how little knowledge the populations of metropolitan areas have in regards to the rural world.
