As our planet is changing more rapidly than it has in many millions of years, are our schools still fit for purpose? A guest contribution by Tremeur Denigot, a former teacher currently advising the European Joint research Centre on educational questions.


Adolfo Rosati and Darcy Gordon, a husband and wife team who run a wonderful agroforestry farm called Località il Piano in Umbria, Italy, received a call from Etienne Compagnon seeking to feature their farm on their new podcast series, "the regenerative agroforestry podcast"





2021 saw a crucial development for global agroforestry: finally, IUAF, the international union of agroforestry, moved from idea to reality in that it secured the wonderful support of the government of the Czech Republic, following which its board decided that its headquarters would be established in Prague. 


An expert online workshop on agroforestry was held on 16.12.2020., within the framework of EURAKNOS project. The event was organized by the National Agrarian Chamber, the Forest Research Institute, the Cooperative Research Center of the University of Sopron, and Zsörk Foundation. 


Earlier this month the Farm Woodland Forum (UK) held a less formal online meeting to share practitioner experiences on the use of sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus) as an agroforestry species. 





Three days fully packed with agroforestry policy issues: "Agroforestry and the Green Architecture of the New CAP" took place between the 16th and 18th of November 2020, kindly hosted by the yearly initiative "Inauguration of the Forestry Year" of the Sardinia Region, Italy.


The EURAF Board welcomes the two newly elected national delegates from Germany. Dr. Christopher Morhart from the University of Freiburg and Julia Günzel from the German Agroforestry Association (DeFAF)


Judit Csikvári is a farmer in Hungary. She thinks that EURAF is truly devoted to promoting agroforestry as a sustainable option in agriculture, and it is developing an efficient and sophisticated lobbying activity while keeping close contacts with farmers.






Rico Hübner has been elected for the second time. Indeed, he was the deputy secretary of EURAF between 2018 and 2020. He is a trained agricultural economist with a keen interest in environmental, social and policy aspects of agroforestry.


Claire Lemarié has been a specialist advisor in agroforestry at the Chamber of Agriculture of Pays-de-la-Loire in France for 2 years, and one of the EURAF French delegate since September 2019.


The work of the Executive Board of EURAF is supported and valued, which was demonstrated by the extremely high voter turnout for the election of the EURAF Executive Board on November 9


Manuel Bertomeu holds a Ph.D. degree in Forestry Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) and he is the Secretary of EURAF for the next two years!


Francesca Camilli is a researcher at the Institute for the BioEconomy of the National Research Council of Italy, CNR-IBE, and member of AIAF, the Italian Agroforestry Association.


Patrick Worms, a Cambridge-educated molecular geneticist, is President of EURAF. He also represents CIFOR-ICRAF  (aka Centre for International Forestry Research and World Agroforestry) to policy makers, donors and corporate partners in Brussels and elsewhere in Europe.


This is a pre-event towards the 5th European Agroforestry Conference, Agroforestry and the Green Architecture of the New cap. The three-day event will be held on the 16th, 17th and 18th of November 2020.

A new Call for Abstract, only for poster presentation, is open. The deadline for the abstract submission is on the 15th of January 2021.


EURAF General Assembly is scheduled on-line for the 9 November 2020 from 6 to 8 CEST. It happens only every two years. So, let's participate!
